Poison Plains

Virulent Flora

It is impossible to discuss the Poison Plains without first examining the Mycon, a species of fungi unlike any other on Nousevan. Ranging from the size of your thumb to towering stalks, the Mycon grow anywhere, given a small amount of water. They wither quickly without the alkaline soils of the Plains, but given access to its unique nutrients, the mushrooms can grow feet per year. Hundreds of subspecies exist, and there are assuredly hundreds more are yet undiscovered. Some will grow tight, grained flesh that can be cured into building materials. Others are coveted by chefs for their delicate texture and rich, unique flavors. However, caution is required with all Mycon. Because of their aggressive germination period, Mycon spores can grow even within the lungs of living things. A full breath of spores will quickly kill even the most resilient of creatures, the stalks and caps clogging its lungs and suffocating it. Respirators are able to filter out the large spores, however one is always a small mishap away from a painful death
